Todays Apple presented the new iPad and as expected it features a 2048x1536 pixel resolution; a quad core gpu with a dual core cpu on one soc - the new A5X; Siri like dictation; a 5mp camera and high speed cellular network support.
The new retina display is groundbreaking, its hard to find a 27''device with such a pixel density and now we get it on a 9,7'' mobile. Its hard to really judge it without seeing it by myself but if its as huge as the difference from a iPhone 3GS to iPhone4 it gonna be huge.
Of course such an increase in pixels needs more power and the new A5X SOC, with four gpu cores, seems to deliver it. The demonstration of "Sky Gamblers" by Namco and "Infinity Blade - Dungeons" by Epic Games where pretty impressive.
Sadly no Siri was announced but the speech recognition powering it is now available in every application through a dictation feature in the virtual keyboard.
I still hope we see Siri in the upcoming iOS 6.
The built in camera iSight was updated to 5-megapixel and seems to deliver a huge increase in quality compared to the iPad2.
It also features 1080p video recording with a mature video stabilizer.
"The new iPad supports fast cellular networks the world over — up to 4G LTE.2 So you can browse the web, stream content, or download a movie at blazing-fast speeds. It also works on GSM/UMTS worldwide network technologies including HSPA+ and DC-HSDPA — the fastest 3G networks out there. You’ll see downlink speeds up to 42 Mbps with DC-HSDPA and up to 21.1 Mbps with HSPA+.3"
The new iPad is available starting March 16th in the USA, Canada, France, Japan, UK, German and Switzerland and can preordered right now!
