RCDefaultApp is a Mac OS X 10.2 or higher preference pane that allows you to set the default application used for various URL schemes, file extensions, and MIME types. Mac OS X uses the extension and file type settings to choose the application when opening a file in Finder, while Safari and other applications use the URL and MIME type settings at other times for content not related to a file.
RCDefaultApp allows setting the application when digital cameras or FireWire webcams such as iSight are connected to the computer. You also can also set the action to take when various types of CDs and DVDs are inserted into the Mac.
The PrefPane works fine with Mac OS X Lion.

very usefull! great to know about this feature!
Doesn't really seem like something I'd need, but I think I know someone who does.
I should get a mac soon.

useful tool, thank you
This isn't built into OS X already? I was going to say +1 for windows, but then I remembered Vista and 7 will often ignore or not save preferences saved from its built in associations app. Guess it's a tie.
