Lion Preview: Developer Preview 2 (build 11A419) review

So yesterday apple seeded the second developer preview of Mac OS Lion build 11A419 to developers.
The update was quite simple (i just installed over my existing Lion) and i am quite impressed. Its overall faster, more stable and imho ready to be used as a productive system.

Here is a quick overview whats new and improved.
Samba (Windows shares) finally works again and its way faster then in Snow Leopard.

Launchpad the iOS styled App launcher is actually useable and stable now.

iCal has a new design.

The sleep mode which gave me a lot of trouble in the developer preview 1 works now perfect again.

A quick test with Portal shows improved graphic performance, i gonna make detailed benchmarks soon.

The Finder is more responsive and seems as stable as in Snow Leopard.
Tabs provided by Total Finder

A new iTunes version 10.2.2b2 (4)

Video is from developer preview 1 but should give you an impression how cool lion actually is.

Overall the system is faster, more stable and in my humble opinion ready for a gold master.

I can't wait for this update. It's going to be so much faster than the current os.

Nicely written, curious for the update!

Looks cool, but i still am reluctant to pay 2000 bucks for a rig that costs only 700

Lion will be an interesting release for sure!

They're doing well, and some day I know I will be using this OS, so good thing.

This "Launchpad", is it an overlay like the dashboard was? I hope it is not the permanent desktop! That would suck. I like my desktop clean. as in "no icons whatsoever"

mac-and-me said...

yep its an overlay
