Bowtie is a free application that allows you to control iTunes and your iPhone with customizable shortcuts, submits your songs to Last.fm, and sports a very simple, yet very powerful, html5 + css + javascript based theming system.
Bowtie gives you a desktop widget, displaying current playing artist,song,infos (lyrics,rating whatever)For skins i recommend:

It also features a Growl integration so you get those nice info bubbles on play/pause/track change.
The Last.fm integration is also a nice thing to have for you social network guys ;)

this was awesome before when i still used my ipod
my itunes widget is a bit simpler than this but i think there really arent enough good ones out there =|
I have yet to even try an iPod, but I like what this program does Lost FM!
